Curb Appeal Counts

There are many people who are selling their homes in Marin County that don’t realize the importance curb appeal plays in selling their homes. Some potential buyers will show up for an appointment with high hopes, only to refuse going into the house. Think about it! Oftentimes, house hunters will drive by listed properties before going to see them with their real estate agents. You wouldn’t want your home to be cut from potential buyers’ lists because it lacks curb appeal!

The Lawn

Homebuyers don’t want to pull up to an available property, only to see dying grass or overgrown lawns. A lush, green lawn is a better selling point than an unkempt, brown one. Usually, watering the lawn daily will make it green again however, if all else fails; you can purchase a product at the home improvement store that “paints” the grass green. Believe it or not; many home sellers use the product to make their lawns look beautiful.

The Home

The outside paint of the home should look fresh and clean. Faded paint or paint that is peeling will be a major turnoff for potential buyers. It’s important that sellers understand that they must make their homes look better than comparable ones for sale in the community. Fresh paint might set you back a few bucks, but in the long run, it will be well worthwhile.

The Entryway

The entrance to a home that’s for sale should be clearly obvious. If yours doesn’t stand out, it would serve you best to make it a focal point. Painting the door a complimentary color or highlighting the entryway’s pillars will quickly make the door pop. This will enhance the curb appeal and make the home more inviting for potential buyers.

Cleaning the door handles and locks will add a little bling to the entryway. A solution of vinegar, baking soda and water will have brass and other metal handles looking brand new. It will also remove any stickiness or rust marks. It’s a cheap and easy way to make your house shine.

The Accoutrements

By planting some brightly colored flowers in the front yard, the house will pop from the road. Hanging baskets or stationary planters with colorful blooms can have the same effect. Remember to keep them watered so they will last until you sell the house.
