Not only does a great looking lawn help sell your house, but it can increase the value of your home as well. As you prepare your home to put on the market, you may be burnt out by preparing the home itself. But, you can’t forget about the outside of it as well. The first impression potential buyers will have of your home is the lawn. An impressive lawn makes for impressed buyers, so it’s definitely worth putting time and effort into landscaping.

If you happen to have more time to prepare your lawn, you may want to consider landscaping projects such as hydroseeding and fertilization to make your lawn look healthy. If you aren’t planning on doing a full-scale landscaping project, however, there are still a few easy steps you can take to freshen up your yard before an open house. To learn more about these tips, keep reading!

Do basic landscaping

The first step to making your lawn look ready for an open house is to do basic landscaping. To do this, you’ll need to do the following:

  • Mow the grass

  • Trim edges of bushes and plants

  • Edge the lawn

  • Remove weeds

You’ll want to take these steps shortly before any open houses are planned to keep your lawn looking freshly landscaped. But, don’t forget to keep up the maintenance when you have no scheduled appointments, as potential buyers may do a drive-by before making any appointments.

Plant flowers

Flowers are a great way to make anybody feel welcome in your home. They provide a fresh, colorful, and happy look to any home, no matter how new or old. Whether you plant flowers in pots or in the ground or hang them, it’s never a bad idea to add flowers to the outside of your home. Before planting flowers, however, make sure your lawn is suitable for what you plan to plant.

Hang or place decorations

There are a variety of decorations and furniture you can add to your yard. For an open house specifically, it may be a good idea to use welcoming pieces of decorations, such as a welcome sign or a friendly doormat. Other ways to decorate include hanging things, such as plants or wind chimes.

If you put furniture in your yard, you may want to be careful of what you put where. Smaller furniture items such as a birdbath or bench are perfect items for a front yard, while a couch and table are better for your backyard.

Lay new mulch

Putting down new mulch or pine straw can transform the look of any yard. With just some dedication and time, your yard will look fresh with a new layer of mulch on the ground. Mulch also helps with erosion control, and keeps your plants in place.

Power wash

The last step to freshening up your yard is to do some power washing. While you don’t need to power wash plants, you can power wash the exterior of your home and pavement. Power washing a walkway or driveway removes built-up dirt, leaving the path bright and clean. You can also power wash the exterior of your home to remove any dirt and other debris as well. Plus, power washing is a satisfying task, so you’ll have fun doing it.

By doing these 5 things, you can make your yard look incredible. Potential buyers want to invest in a home that is well taken care of, and a good lawn is the first sign that a home is cared for. But, don’t neglect the inside of your house as well. Preparing your home to sell is a process that requires a lot of attention, so make sure you put your heart into it. Good luck!
